Saw this story as a fic rec on KD-FB, and couldn't resist. Not surprisingly I hadn't read it before, as I wasn't a member of KD when this was written, but I've read some amazing stories of yours, and I should have looked closer at your collection. This was an amazing read. Your narrative was beautiful and lyrically crafted.
Someone needed to pull Brian and Justin's heads out of their asses, and Dusty didn't fail to fulfill that hope or expectation. Poor Brian to have had such a traumatic childhood, that he thought of himself as, The bringer of bats and bombs and broken children everywhere. And Justin, not much better off with having Craig for a father. It's easy to give up trying, when there hasn't been many rewards.
Wonderful story,
XOXO ~ Cathy
Author's Response:
Dusty was a sorely underused character, I think. I have this image of her in my head, of her personality and her life experiences, and she could have been such a force for common sense when it was sorely needed.
Glad you found this and enjoyed it. And they'll make it. It'll just be on their own schedule.

Beautifully crafted. Wow, just wow. The last chapter was amazing. I loved all of the metaphors. So perfect.
Author's Response:
Thank you, so much. I had begun this as a sorta-kinda ghost story and it developed into something entirely different. We forget, I think, just how much of a starring role Babylon played in the series, in the legend of BrianandJustin. And there are really a lot of ghost stories in that series, if we look hard enough for them.
I tend to write in color, as I think of it, with purple prose at times and blue streaks at others. And, as if you can't tell, I love metaphors. Simile, hyperbole, antithesis... doesn't matter. They're all good. My philosophy professors fostered that in me.
I'm so gratified that, all these years later, this still touches someone. Thank you for letting me know.

This was excellent. I throughly enjoyed the introspection from both Brian and Justin and the thoughts both men had regarding their situations was poignant, insightful and wonderful to read and ponder. This story is so full of deep thoughts and understanding. I don't kow if I'm doing a good job of sharing the felings that I had as I read this story, but feel I did and that is great. YOu should feel proud regarding this story.

Just so powerful and emotional...
both so damaged... but so true that Justin finally realized they BOTH skipped some stages... what a wonderful way to phrase that!

OMG, I'm actually crying... but I can't tell if it's sad or just highly emotional in general

A beautifully inperfect-but PERFECT for them- ending! You have such a gift with words that I felt as if I was one of the ghosts within Babylon's shell watching this unfold. Out of the rubble of our lives comes restoration and renewal. I think you captured the essence of that concept on this story!
Thank you for sharing this gift with us!

Conversations with the dead. Will Justin heed her advise?

Brian seems to attrack dead people. First Vic now Dusty. Will he listen?

Oh MY!!! Where to begin?! First, your use of Dusty in this is magnificient. She was someone they both knew personally but also someone without a vested interest in them staying together or falling apart. Her 'unique perspective' is what they both need in the who, what, whys and wherefores their relationship has become.
Secondly, this chapter was even more engrossing than the last. I think you are really taking those things shown but unsaid and painting a picture of thoughts that changed their individual courses. Honestly, I wish this had happened in the show especially since it took Vic's ghost to speak sense into Brian during the Cancer arc. Now that they both have had an opportunity to voice their concerns-even if was to Dusty- I wonder if they will now learn to voice them to each other. So much bullshit could have been avoided if they would have stopped talking and listening to other people (especially Michael) and just talked to each other.
Great Job Darling! Looking forward to the rest of this!

Here ya go! I wrote this three-parter some time ago. It started out to be a Halloween ghost story, and turned into something quite a bit different. Glad you are hooked!
